Behind the room
A nautical brief, without the beach-house clichés
The client wanted her four-story loft to feel like a relaxing ocean-side escape and an inviting place to entertain. Eddie looked to boutique hotels rather than literal nautical décor, using a blue-green sectional, a matching field of wall color, and grounded copper accents to make saturation feel elevated rather than themed.
The room also had to work for two or three cats. Wood was avoided, and the palette came to life through concrete, metal, mirror, and durable microfiber upholstery. The massive sectional arrived in roughly ten pieces; its scale, shifting blue-green fabric, and complicated route through the loft made it the anchor for every decision that followed.
The final edge came from the oversized Jonathan Adler acrylic hand. Its surreal scale gave the room the quirky, artful tension Eddie wanted—and reinforced his central lesson from the project: when the brief asks for something outside your usual language, commit to it fully and let scale do the work.

Giant Acrylic Hand Bowl
Eddie chose this oversized Jonathan Adler hand to give the polished room a surreal, playful edge. Its dramatic scale transformed it from accessory into art—and helped define the entire space.
